There's a Voice That Keeps On Calling Me
Many things are sure to make the Manitoba Comic Con better than...well, certain other Winnipeg-based conventions which shall remain nameless.
For one thing, the organisers have actually made an effort to advertise the event properly, even to (shock of shocks) people who don't already live here. To that end, you may have already seen the one- and two-page spreads in the current issues of the official Smallville, Star Trek, and Star Wars magazines.
For another, check out that guest list: John de Lancie! LeVar Burton! Gerrit Graham! Lou Ferrigno! Jeremy Bulloch! The list goes on (and I haven't even mentioned many of the Superman-related guests who'll be appearing), but it's so gratifying in general to have multiple (if you'll pardon the expression) "real" guests at a local con, worth advertising, after being told for so long that "that's just not possible in this city."
What I'm most excited about at the moment, however, is that I've signed up for "Voice Acting for Animation" with acclaimed voice actor Charlie Adler. His CV is quite extensive, but some of his better-known roles include Silverbolt on Transformers (not to mention Starscream in his current cinematic incarnation), Low-Light on GI Joe, recurring villain Mechanikles on Aladdin, Buster Bunny on Tiny Toon Adventures, and best yet, both Eric Raymond and Tech Rat on Jem (which
laragoth should appreciate ;)).
I'm hoping the seminar involves more participation and less straight lecturing--I've always wanted to try my hand at voice acting, somehow, and that is something which isn't very possible in this city--but either way, it should prove informative.
There'll be more surprises over the weekend, no doubt, so expect a con report and some photographic evidence after the dust settles...
